Building a new bathroom with pink wall tiles

The owners of this house wanted to renovate their ensuite bathroom in Peakhurst. Their plan was to renovate the ensuite to their main bedroom and once that was finished, to then renovate the main bathroom in the house.

By doing one bathroom at a time it means there is always a functional bathroom available for everyone to use and they can remain living in the home.

Their interior design choices included pink wall tiles from TFO, in a vertical subway pattern, which is very striking as soon as you walk in. We used light grey grout and the tapware from Abi Interiors was all in brushed brass which blended nicely, set against a wall hung timber vanity from ADP.

The huge shower had dual shower heads installed which is great if you have kids or would like a bit of romantic time with your loved one.

Demolishing an existing bathroom to build a new one

Passion Built‘s renovation scope of work included the full demolition of the old bathroom in Peakhurst before we began any renovating. We stripped everything to get back to the bare brick walls so that could get access to the plumbing. This ensuite was actually quite large and the toilet was separated by a nib wall which is a great idea to create some privacy.

As you can see the old bathroom had very dark floor tiles and very plain white wall tiles so it felt a bit cold and didn’t have much character.

Renovating a bathroom with subway tiles in a vertical pattern

Once all the brick walls were stripped we could begin the tiling with the new Terrazzo style floor tiles & then the vertical subway tiles. Not all subway wall tiling needs to be horizontal, you can lay them on the wall vertically, as you can see it looks quite effective. Subway tiling can be a great design feature for a bathroom. It is a classic and timeless design that can work well in both modern and traditional bathrooms. Subway tiles are typically rectangular tiles that are laid in a running bond pattern, which gives them a clean and simple look.

One of the advantages of subway tiling is that it is versatile and can be used in a variety of colours, textures, and sizes. This allows you to customise the look of your bathroom to your liking. Subway tiling is also relatively easy to install and maintain, making it a practical choice for a bathroom.

Subway tiling has become a very popular choice for bathroom design, so it may not be the most unique or original choice. Additionally, if not done well, it can look overwhelming with lots of lines and edges. Incorporating other design elements with colours, textures or using interesting grout colours or patterns can add the right amount of visual interest.

Typically subway tiling will be used for a feature wall behind the vanity or on the wall opposite to the entry as an impact statement.

Custom bathroom renovating ideas

Textured tiles in a wall niche

The subway tiles in slightly different shades of pink create immediate interest. The fact they are laid vertically help to make the room feel larger than it is with the vertical lines.

Shallow vanity sink

Most people will choose a sink for their vanity that is quite deep, although when you think about it, why do you need a deep sink? By choosing to install a shallow sink in your bathroom you can save space under the countertop for extra storage while retaining the ability to catch water.

Concealed floor waste

We disguise the floor waste by integrating it into the floor tiling design. It is less noticeable but functions really well.

Dual shower heads

You can have two shower heads in a walk in shower. This one had so much room that it just made sense. It is great if you have kids and they can all jump into the shower to get warm water pouring on them. Or for couples it can be a practical way to get ready for work or create a bit of romantic time together.

Renovating a bathroom in Peakhurst can definitely add value to your home, as long as the renovations are done properly and with the right materials. When considering a bathroom renovation, it’s important to ensure that you have all the necessary elements to make the space functional, including a shower, toilet, vanity and bathtub.

  • A shower is a must-have for most people, as it provides a convenient and efficient way to get clean. Make sure to choose a shower that is large enough for two people and has enough headroom, if needed.
  •  Toilets are also important (no kidding right) and you should consider a model that is efficient, easy to clean and has a low profile to make the most of the space if there isn’t much room. Sometimes a concealed cistern system is a wise choice.
  • Vanity units are essential for storing bathroom essentials and can be used to add extra counter space, too. Choose a vanity that matches the style of the bathroom and has enough storage space.
  • Bathtubs can also add value to your home, especially if you have a larger family or enjoy relaxing in a warm bath. While they can take up a lot of space they are especially suited if the home needs to be used by a family with small children or it is placed in an ensuite to the main bedroom.

When renovating your custom bathroom, it is important to choose high-quality materials that are durable and attractive. This includes tiles, taps, shower heads and other fixtures. We always recommend a fresh coat of paint to give the space a new look and feel.

Additionally, consider incorporating energy-efficient and eco-friendly features into your bathroom renovation, such as low-flow toilets, shower heads and taps which can help reduce water and energy usage. These features not only help the environment, but can also lower your monthly bills.

In terms of cost, bathroom renovations can range from a few thousand dollars for a basic renovation to tens of thousands for a complete overhaul. It is important to have a budget in mind and stick to it, so you don’t overspend. Renovating a bathroom in Wahroonga to include a shower, toilet, vanity and bathtub can add value to your home, as long as the renovations are done properly and with the right materials.
