Darling Point Small bathroom renovation with Terrazzo tiling by Passion Built

Bathroom renovations in Darling Point with Terrazzo tiling

We can renovate a bathroom in Darling Point with terrazzo tiling

Passion Built was chosen as the contractor for this bathroom renovation in Darling Point, Sydney, that was inside a unit block. Our company can renovate a bathroom in any suburb of Sydney whether it is a house, unit or apartment.

The owner wanted to do a complete renovation for this small bathroom but use Terrazzo wall and floor tiling as the feature. They wanted to remove the old combined shower and bath to replace it with a walk in shower to create a new modern bathroom design.

The custom made solid calcutta stone basin was imported from Russia and is a stunning feature piece for this bathroom that gives it ‘wow factor’ as soon as you walk in.  Authentic Terrazzo tiles were used for the floor and walls with an open  walk in shower design creating plenty of space in this small bathroom.

For practicality, we also installed new underfloor heating that can be used any time of the year, especially in colder months. To finish the room off we used ABI Interiors tap ware fixtures in gold which gives the room a small pop of colour and style. To give the room a bit of ‘mood’ there was also new lighting installed in the bulkhead with an illuminated mirror making it perfect for grooming, shaving or getting make up done.

"We didn't really know anyone who could help us with our two bedroom city apartment renovation until we found Passion Built Renovation Company and it was the best decision we made.

We had the two bathrooms fully renovated with new tiles and fittings. Dylan was very prompt to provide a competitive quote and ready to commence the work. He was very punctual, friendly, reliable and a highly competent project manager. "

Bathrooms renovated in Darling Point with Terrazzo tiling

Getting a small bathroom renovated in a unit block has become one of the most popular things we are being asked for when we do renovation quotations in Darling Point at the moment. People are using Terrazzo tiling to give their bathroom a feeling of luxury. We have lots of experience renovating bathrooms and laundry rooms in units, apartments, and townhouses in Darling Point.

We began this project by completely demolishing the old bathroom that had mixed colour tiles and was quite old. We stripped the room back to the bare brick walls and this meant we could make sure there is no water damage under the tiles that couldn’t be seen before. The owner wanted a different floor plan so we had to also prepare the floors and walls so that the underfloor heating and new Terrazzo tiling could be installed. The bathroom hardware items that were to be installed included a new toilet, the stone vanity sink and tap fittings. To give the room plenty of space a shower screen wasn’t installed and this created an open space to have a shower with a concealed floor drain in the corner of the room providing plenty of drainage.

The original window was retained and this was large enough to let natural light flood into the room and bounce off the new Terrazzo tiles to give the bathroom a fresh feeling any time of the day.

Terrazzo tiling

Terrazzo tiles have been around for a long time, and they have a rich history dating back to ancient times. Terrazzo is a composite material made from chips of marble, glass, or other materials that are set in concrete or resin. In recent years, terrazzo has become a popular material for bathroom renovations due to its durability, versatility, and aesthetic appeal.

Terrazzo tiles are a great choice for bathroom renovations for several reasons. First, they are durable and easy to maintain, which is particularly important in a bathroom environment that is prone to moisture and frequent use. Second, terrazzo tiles come in a wide range of colors and patterns, making them a versatile option that can be customized to suit any design aesthetic. Finally, terrazzo tiles are a modern and stylish choice that can add a touch of luxury to any bathroom.

While terrazzo tiles have been around for centuries, they have experienced a resurgence in popularity in recent years as more people are embracing modern design trends that prioritize natural materials and bold textures. Terrazzo tiles offer a unique and eye-catching look that can be used to create a variety of design styles, from minimalist and modern to classic and traditional. Overall, terrazzo tiles are a great option for anyone looking to add a touch of style and sophistication to their bathroom renovation.

Genuine or replica Terrazzo floor tiles?

The main difference between genuine terrazzo floor tiles and fake ones is the material used to create them. Genuine terrazzo is made from a mixture of chips of natural stone, such as marble or granite, and cement or epoxy resin. This mixture is poured into molds and then polished to create a smooth, durable surface. The result is a unique and one-of-a-kind floor that showcases the natural beauty of the stone chips.

In contrast, fake or imitation terrazzo tiles are typically made from ceramic or porcelain and are printed with a design that mimics the look of terrazzo. While these tiles may look similar to genuine terrazzo, they lack the natural beauty and depth of real stone chips. In addition, they may not be as durable or long-lasting as genuine terrazzo tiles.

Another key difference between genuine terrazzo tiles and fake ones is the cost. Genuine terrazzo tiles can be more expensive than fake ones, as they require skilled labor and natural materials to create. However, they are often considered to be a better investment in the long run, as they are more durable and can add value to a property.

The big difference is cost  with genuine Terrazzo costing between $120m2 and $300m2, whereas Terrazzo-look tiles can be found for around $40m2 to $100m2.

The little design details can make all the difference with bathroom design. With the layout of this small bathroom creating a very open space it was important to have a very discrete, concealed, floor drain that wouldn’t be too noticeable. We colour matched it to the tapware for uniformity and the removable element makes cleaning any blockages really simple.

With limited space in this small bathroom the owner was very clever in choosing a hand made stone vanity as the statement piece for the room. It isn’t common to have your vanity as a feature, most people will use wall tiles or the bath tub for this. Although with the layout of the room and space available it made sense that this became the focal element for the room design.

It also means the rest of the room retains its minimalist style with the sink basin immediately becoming the talking point of the room. It gives this small bathroom design a sophisticated look with its ‘less is more’ approach.

Terrazzo is a versatile material that can be used to create a wide range of looks, including modern and contemporary styles. With its clean lines and bold textures, terrazzo can be used to create a sleek and sophisticated look that is perfect for modern bathroom renovations in Sydney. One of the great things about terrazzo is that it comes in a wide range of colors and patterns, so it can be customized to suit any design aesthetic. In a modern bathroom renovation, you may want to consider using terrazzo tiles in a neutral color palette, such as white, gray, or black, to create a clean and streamlined look. Alternatively, you could opt for terrazzo tiles with a bold pattern or color to add a pop of visual interest and create a more dynamic look.

In addition to its aesthetic appeal, terrazzo is also a practical choice for a modern bathroom renovation. It is durable, easy to clean, and resistant to moisture, which makes it ideal for use in a high-traffic area like a bathroom. If you’re looking to create a modern bathroom renovation in Sydney, terrazzo tiles are definitely worth considering, they offer a unique and stylish look that is both practical and beautiful.

Renovating a bathroom in Chifley can definitely add value to your home, as long as the renovations are done properly and with the right materials. When considering a bathroom renovation, it’s important to ensure that you have all the necessary elements to make the space functional, including a shower, toilet, vanity and bathtub.

  • A shower is a must-have for most people, as it provides a convenient and efficient way to get clean. Make sure to choose a shower that is large enough for two people and has enough headroom, if needed.
  •  Toilets are also important (no kidding right) and you should consider a model that is efficient, easy to clean and has a low profile to make the most of the space if there isn’t much room. Sometimes a concealed cistern system is a wise choice.
  • Vanity units are essential for storing bathroom essentials and can be used to add extra counter space, too. Choose a vanity that matches the style of the bathroom and has enough storage space.
  • Bathtubs can also add value to your home, especially if you have a larger family or enjoy relaxing in a warm bath. While they can take up a lot of space they are especially suited if the home needs to be used by a family with small children or it is placed in an ensuite to the main bedroom.

When renovating your custom bathroom, it is important to choose high-quality materials that are durable and attractive. This includes tiles, taps, shower heads and other fixtures. We always recommend a fresh coat of paint to give the space a new look and feel.

Additionally, consider incorporating energy-efficient and eco-friendly features into your bathroom renovation, such as low-flow toilets, shower heads and taps which can help reduce water and energy usage. These features not only help the environment, but can also lower your monthly bills.

In terms of cost, bathroom renovations can range from a few thousand dollars for a basic renovation to tens of thousands for a complete overhaul. It is important to have a budget in mind and stick to it, so you don’t overspend. Renovating a bathroom in Chifley to include a shower, toilet, vanity and bathtub can add value to your home, as long as the renovations are done properly and with the right materials.
