Complete bathroom renovation in Pagewood with double walk in shower and bath

Dylan and his team did a perfect job. You can see he’s built my dream bathroom to the highest of specs and with an amazing eye to details. I found him on the internet and wasn’t a personal connexion but he was so professional from quote, to reference and throughout the whole project.

His pricing was competitive too. I left to Europe while the work was being done. It went without any issue and I came back to a beautiful bathroom in a clean house. His team went above and beyond.

For instance I thought the spot lights were too “cool” and his team came to change it to a warmer colour to make sure I was 100% happy. Dylan is a great communicator, a nice person to deal with and someone who has delivered to high expectations.
Highly recommend.

Building a new bathroom in Pagewood, Sydney

Carole wanted her bathroom completely renovated in Pagewood which also required changes to the plumbing to provide a different drainage layout for the room. She had an interior designer create different floor layout ideas and eventually she chose a very spacious design for her 2.8 x 3.4 main bathroom.

The new bathroom interior design included a new big window, double walk in shower, free standing bath and beautiful soft timber vanity with rounded edges. It truly is a design masterpiece which includes a complete layout overhaul with stunning small details like the concealed floor waste, Honed Biscotto Terrazzo tiles and inviting colour pallet, this bathroom is a true work of art.

The design made sure there would be lots of natural light with a brand-new window, adding a refreshing touch to anyone’s daily routine. Terrazzo stone floor tiles bring both luxury and durability to the space, creating a foundation for a lifetime of relaxation.

The large double walk in shower has plenty of space for two people, kids or even a family pet to have a wash with the discreetly elegant shower seat seamlessly integrated into the Terrazzo design to give this bathroom some clever practicality.

The handmade feature wall tiles are a true showstopper, adding a burst of colour and texture that’ll make every shower feel like a Moroccan escape. While the fully custom-made vanity, meticulously crafted to harmonise with this bathroom, is not just storage; it’s a statement piece with its soft rounded edges and use of warm timber.

The new layout creates enough space for a toilet and a huge free standing bath to also be installed in the room with plenty of space between each one.

A bathroom renovation created by an interior designer in Pagewood, Sydney

Passion Built‘s renovation scope of work included everything from demolition through to construction and final fit off. What made this renovation even easier to work on is that we were building from a set of interior design plans from TSF Architects the owner had commissioned for this bathroom.

Engaging an interior designer when considering a bathroom renovation in Sydney (or anywhere, for that matter) offers several advantages that can make the process smoother, more efficient, and yield better results. Working with an architect or an interior designer means you are getting help from someone who is highly skilled in providing designed solution. They will spend time to initially understand your needs concerning lifestyle, budget, design vision and the unique aspects of your project. They will then guide you on the best solution for your requirements and help you determine what kind of renovation, extension or new build is needed.

Our renovating team can then take their plans and build everything exactly to the specifications provided. Some other benefits include

  • Local Knowledge: Interior designers in Sydney will have a better understanding of local trends, tastes, and styles. They also have knowledge about local regulations and building codes that could impact the renovation.

  • Access to Resources: Designers typically have a network of trusted suppliers, craftsmen, and contractors. This means they can often secure quality materials at better prices and ensure reliable workmanship.

  • Space Optimisation: Sydney properties, especially in densely populated areas, might have space constraints. A designer can help make the most of limited space, ensuring functionality without compromising aesthetics.

  • Save Time: An interior designer can streamline the renovation process by coordinating with various contractors and suppliers, ensuring that the project stays on schedule.

  • Budget Management: A good designer will help you set a realistic budget and ensure you get the best value for your money. They can often suggest where to invest more and where you can save without compromising quality.

  • Expertise: Designers bring a trained eye to the table. They can foresee challenges or issues and suggest solutions before they become significant problems.

  • Personalisation: While keeping in mind current trends, a designer will also ensure the renovated space reflects your personal taste and meets your specific needs.

  • Increased Property Value: A well-designed bathroom can significantly increase the property’s value. This could be especially relevant in Sydney’s competitive real estate market.

  • Stress Reduction: Renovations can be stressful. Having a professional manage the design aspect can alleviate many of the headaches and uncertainties that come with a DIY approach.

  • Holistic Vision: Interior designers consider the bathroom in the context of the entire home, ensuring cohesion with other rooms and the overall design theme.

  • Innovative Ideas: Designers are often updated with the latest design innovations and technologies, introducing elements you might not have considered or been aware of.

Engaging an interior designer is especially beneficial if you lack the time, expertise, or resources to oversee a renovation yourself. While it involves an additional cost, the value they bring in terms of expertise, resources, and peace of mind can make the investment well worth it.

Small bathroom layout idea for a 2.8M x 3.4M FLOORPLAN

Coming up with small bathroom layout ideas can be pretty easy if you use an interior designer or you do things yourself using planning software. For a lot of renovation projects we might draw up a simple plan  that we work towards, this will have tolerances to move or adjust things as needed and we’ll also check that everything will physically fit into the room as well.

Although getting an accurate site plan created can take out all the guesswork and give every trade a very specific set of documents to build to. It means everything is planned to millimetre precision with minimal errors.

In this case of this bathroom the size was 2.8M x 3.4M and by moving the plumbing we were able to relocate the toilet, vanity, shower and bath to then make it a more spacious and user friendly design.

How much is an interior designer for a bathroom renovation in Pagewood, Sydney?

The cost of hiring an interior designer in Sydney (or most major cities) for a bathroom renovation can vary widely based on several factors:

  • Designer’s Experience and Reputation: Renowned designers or firms with a solid reputation and years of experience typically charge more than newer or less established designers.

  • Scope of Work: Whether you need comprehensive services (from conceptual design to project completion) or just consultancy for colour selection, material choice, etc., will influence the fee.

  • Size and Complexity of the Project: A large, luxurious master bathroom will generally cost more in design fees than a small guest bathroom due to the complexity and the amount of time involved.

Their billing methods will also vary:
  • Hourly Rate: Designers might charge an hourly rate, which can range from $80 to $250 or more, depending on their experience and the project’s demands.

  • Flat Fee: Some designers offer a flat fee for a project, providing a clear upfront cost. This fee will vary depending on the project’s scope and the designer’s pricing model.

  • Percentage of the Total Cost: Some designers charge a fee based on a percentage of the total renovation cost, typically ranging from 10% to 20%.

  • Retail Markup: If the designer assists in purchasing materials, fixtures, or furnishings, they might add a markup to the retail price, which is another revenue source for them.

  • Additional Costs: These could include travel expenses (if sourcing materials or items from outside Sydney), 3D renderings, mock-ups, or any other special requests.

  • Location within Sydney: Costs might vary based on the location within Sydney, with prices potentially higher in more affluent neighbourhoods or areas.

A rough ballpark estimate for interior design services for a bathroom renovation in Sydney could range anywhere from $2,000 to $10,000 or more, depending on the factors mentioned above. However, these figures can change, and it’s essential to get several quotes from different designers to gauge the current market rates and find someone who fits within your budget and meets your design needs.

Changing the plumbing layout of a bathroom

Nearly every modern home is built on a concrete slab so that it can withstand the weight of the constructed building. By cutting into the concrete slab using a licensed plumber you can then tap into the existing plumbing lines, then add connections or run extra lines to reach the locations needed for the new placement of the toilet, taps, drains or bath.

Once all the new plumbing lines are in place the floor can be repaired using new concrete to retain the strength of the floor. When the concrete has had time to cure, then a screed as well as waterproofing can be installed so the room is ready to receive new floor and wall tiling.

  • Professional Assessment: It’s crucial to have a professional plumber or engineer assess the feasibility and structural implications of cutting into the concrete slab. They will evaluate the existing plumbing layout, the load-bearing capacity of the slab, and any potential risks or complications involved in the process.

  • Structural Integrity: Cutting into a concrete slab can affect the structural integrity of the building. Ensure that the load-bearing capacity of the slab will not be compromised by the addition of sewage lines or plumbing access. A structural engineer may be required to assess and provide guidance on reinforcing the slab, if necessary.

  • Location and Layout: Consider the optimal location for the new sewage lines or plumbing access. Assess the proximity to existing sewer lines, drainage systems, and water supply lines. Plan the layout carefully to minimise the need for additional cuts and ensure efficient flow.

  • Utility Identification: Before cutting into the concrete slab, it’s essential to identify the location of any existing utility lines such as electrical, gas, or water lines. Contact the relevant utility companies in Sydney to mark these lines to prevent accidental damage during the cutting process.

  • Noise and Dust Control: Cutting into concrete generates a significant amount of noise and dust. Take appropriate measures to control the noise levels and minimise dust spread, ensuring the safety and comfort of residents or occupants nearby.

  • Waterproofing and Sealing: When cutting into a concrete slab for sewage lines or plumbing access, it’s crucial to properly seal and waterproof the newly created openings to prevent leaks and potential water damage.

  • Professional Expertise: Given the complexity and potential risks involved, it’s strongly recommended to hire experienced professionals, such as plumbers and concrete cutting specialists, who have the expertise, equipment, and knowledge to perform the job safely and efficiently.

Remember that specific requirements and considerations may vary depending on the unique characteristics of your property, local regulations, and the advice of professionals familiar with your specific situation. Consulting with local experts will ensure that you follow the appropriate procedures and adhere to any specific guidelines in Sydney.

Bathroom renovating ideas in Pagewood

A seating area inside a walk in shower

Having a seating area inside a walk-in shower is considered a good bathroom interior design idea for several reasons:

  • Comfort and Relaxation: A seat can make the showering experience more comfortable and relaxing. Instead of standing for the entire duration of the shower, one can sit down and let the water massage their back or simply enjoy a more leisurely pace.
  • Safety: For older adults or individuals with mobility issues, standing for extended periods can be a challenge, or even a risk. A seat allows them to shower safely without the fear of slipping or getting tired.
  • Shaving and Foot Care: For many, a seating area can provide a convenient space to sit while shaving legs or attending to foot care, reducing the risk of slips and falls.
  • Therapeutic Benefits: Combine a bench with steam features, and you have a personal steam room where you can relax and enjoy the therapeutic benefits of steam.
  • Adds a Luxurious Feel: When done right, a seating area can make the shower look and feel luxurious. It’s a feature commonly found in high-end hotel suites and spas.
  • Practicality for All Ages: As part of universal design principles, a shower seat ensures the bathroom is accessible and functional for all ages and abilities.
  • Design Element: Aesthetically, a well-chosen shower seat can act as a focal point or add a unique design element to the bathroom. For example, a wooden bench can introduce warmth and organic texture in a predominantly tiled space.
  • Enhances Property Value: Thoughtfully designed bathrooms with such features can be a selling point and potentially add value to a property because of the added functionality and luxury appeal.
  • Romance: for this home we built a twin shower so there is plenty of space for two people to enjoy time together.

installing a smart toilet

OTO has been a leading brand in the bathroom fixtures industry, known for its innovative and high-quality products. The Neorest line, in general, has been recognised for its advanced features and integration of technology for enhanced user experience.

  • Advanced Cleaning Technologies: TOTO’s Neorest toilets often come equipped with technologies such as the Tornado Flush and electrolyzed water (eWater+), ensuring efficient cleaning with every flush and reducing the need for harsh chemicals.
  • Automatic Functions: Many Neorest models have automatic lids that open and close based on sensors, as well as automatic flushing, reducing the need for physical contact and ensuring a more hygienic experience.
  • Heated Seating: Some models have this feature to enhance comfort, especially in colder environments or during winter months.
  • Air Deodoriser: Some models come equipped with an automatic air purification system, ensuring that the bathroom remains odor-free.
  • Nightlight Feature: Soft illumination makes nighttime visits more comfortable without the need for bright overhead lights.
  • Space-Saving: Integrated bidet and toilet features mean fewer fixtures in the bathroom, which can be especially valuable in smaller spaces.
  • Energy Efficient: Some Neorest models are designed to be energy efficient, using less water per flush and electricity for their various functions.
  • Sleek Design: The modern and minimalist design of the Neorest line adds a touch of luxury and contemporary aesthetic to any bathroom.

Concealed floor waste

A concealed floor waste (also commonly referred to as a hidden or linear drain) in a shower offers both functional and aesthetic advantages, making it a popular choice for bathroom renovations.

  • Sleek Aesthetic: A concealed floor waste offers a minimalist and modern look, ensuring that the shower floor has a continuous, uninterrupted design. This contributes to a cleaner and more streamlined bathroom appearance.
  • Versatile Tile Choices: With linear drains, larger tiles can be used on the shower floor since the tiles don’t have to contour around a central drain. This can make the shower space appear larger and more cohesive with the rest of the bathroom design.
  • Improved Water Flow: Linear drains are often designed to handle water flow more efficiently than traditional center drains, reducing the likelihood of water pooling in the shower area.
  • Flexible Placement: Concealed floor wastes can be positioned in various locations, such as against the shower wall or at the entrance of the shower. This flexibility can facilitate diverse design configurations.
  • Barrier Free Design: Concealed drains can easily be incorporated into curb less or barrier-free showers, making the space more accessible and user-friendly, especially for individuals with mobility challenges.
  • Easier Cleaning: Without the pronounced central drain cover, cleaning can be more straightforward. The straight lines of a linear drain can be easier to maintain than the grates and crevices of traditional drains.

Changing the plumbing layout

By moving your plumbing connections to different locations in the bathroom you can reconfigure how it is layed out. It means you can move your toilet, shower, vanity or bath to be orientated in a different way and create a new design.

Curved vanity

A curved vanity can be a unique and luxurious feature in modern bathroom interior design, but like any design choice, its suitability depends on several factors.

  • Unique Aesthetic Appeal: A curved vanity can offer a distinctive look that sets your bathroom apart from traditionally designed spaces. Its flowing lines can add a touch of softness and elegance to a room.
  • Ergonomics: The rounded edges of a curved vanity can be more ergonomic, making it comfortable for users when moving around or leaning against the counter.
  • Safety: Without sharp corners, curved vanities can reduce the risk of injury from accidental bumps or collisions, especially in households with children.
  • Versatility in Design: Curved vanities can fit well in various bathroom layouts, whether as a standalone feature in larger bathrooms or as a space-saving solution in tighter spaces.
  • Integration with Other Curved Elements: If the bathroom design includes other curved elements such as freestanding bathtubs or rounded mirrors, a curved vanity can harmonise well with the overall design theme.

Using timber in a bathroom

Moving the laundry into the garage can create more space inside the home but also make it easier to do the washing because it is close distance to the clothes line. Adding cupboards and space to have a washing machine or dryer can be relatively easy to achieve.

Bathroom renovation ideas in Pagewood.

Here are some more custom bathroom design ideas you can take inspiration from. As you will see, each one of them is very different, proof that we can renovate any style or type of bathroom in Pagewood. Our renovation company can help you custom design a bathroom of any size, then demolish your old rooms to then build a completely new one.

We can build a new custom bathroom in a home, unit or garage in Pagewood using inspiration from magazines, pinterest or other locations

Building a new bathroom or renovating an old one in Pagewood can definitely add value to your home, as long as the renovations are done properly and with the right materials. When considering a bathroom renovation, it’s important to ensure that you have all the necessary elements to make the space functional, including a shower, toilet, vanity and bathtub.

  • A shower is a must-have for most people, as it provides a convenient and efficient way to get clean. Make sure to choose a shower that is large enough for two people and has enough headroom, if needed.
  •  Toilets are also important (no kidding right) and you should consider a model that is efficient, easy to clean and has a low profile to make the most of the space if there isn’t much room. Sometimes a concealed cistern system is a wise choice.
  • Vanity units are essential for storing bathroom essentials and can be used to add extra counter space, too. Choose a vanity that matches the style of the bathroom and has enough storage space.
  • Bathtubs can also add value to your home, especially if you have a larger family or enjoy relaxing in a warm bath. While they can take up a lot of space they are especially suited if the home needs to be used by a family with small children or it is placed in an ensuite to the main bedroom.

When renovating your  bathroom, it is important to choose high-quality materials that are durable and attractive. This includes tiles, taps, shower heads and other fixtures. We always recommend a fresh coat of paint to give the space a new look and feel. Additionally, consider incorporating energy-efficient and eco-friendly features into your bathroom renovation, such as low-flow toilets, shower heads and taps which can help reduce water and energy usage. These features not only help the environment, but can also lower your monthly bills.

In terms of cost, bathroom renovations can range from a few thousand dollars for a basic renovation to tens of thousands for a complete overhaul. It is important to have a budget in mind and stick to it, so you don’t overspend. Renovating a bathroom in Pagewood to include a shower, toilet, vanity and bathtub can add value to your home, as long as the renovations are done properly and with the right materials.

Adding a bathroom with a combined laundry to a garage in Pagewood can potentially add value to your home. However, the actual value added will depend on various factors such as the quality of the construction, the market demand in your area, and the overall appeal and functionality of the addition. Here are some considerations:

  • Increased Functionality: Adding a bathroom and a combined laundry to a garage can enhance the functionality of your home. This addition provides convenience and versatility, especially if there are no existing bathrooms or laundry facilities in the garage or nearby. It can be particularly attractive to potential buyers or renters who prioritise having these amenities readily available.

  • Additional Living Space: Converting a garage into a usable space with a bathroom and laundry can effectively increase the liveable square footage of your home. This can be advantageous when it comes to property valuation and appeal. However, it’s important to note that converting a garage may impact the availability of covered parking, which could be a factor for some buyers.

  • Market Demand: The demand for properties with additional bathrooms and laundry facilities can vary depending on the specific market conditions in your area. Research the local real estate market and consult with real estate professionals to understand the preferences and expectations of potential buyers or renters. Consider whether the addition aligns with the needs and desires of the target market.

  • Quality and Design: The quality of the construction, finishes, and overall design of the added bathroom and laundry will significantly impact its value. Ensure that the space is well-designed, functional, and visually appealing. Using high-quality materials and fixtures will also contribute to the perceived value of the addition.

  • Cost vs. Value: Consider the cost of the addition relative to the potential increase in property value. Evaluate whether the expenses involved in construction, permits, and any necessary modifications are justified by the potential return on investment. It’s advisable to get estimates from reputable contractors and compare them with the estimated increase in home value to make an informed decision.

Remember that adding value to a home is not solely dependent on a single renovation project. It’s essential to consider the overall condition of the property, its location, and other factors that influence market value. Conduct thorough research, consult with professionals, and weigh the costs and potential benefits to make an informed decision about renovating your bathroom in Pagewood.
